The Circulatory System

Warm Up Write down three things you can do to keep your heart healthy Write down three things you can do to keep your heart healthy

The Circulatory System This system carries food and oxygen to all the cells of the body. This system carries food and oxygen to all the cells of the body. It is made up of the heart, blood & blood vessels. It is made up of the heart, blood & blood vessels.

The Circulatory has 2 big jobs Big job # 1 – Carrying Food, Water, & Oxygen. Big job # 1 – Carrying Food, Water, & Oxygen.  The circulatory system was the awesome task of delivering the necessary “goods” the cells. It’s a bit like the pizza delivery person.

Big Job #2 -Removing Wastes from the cells. Big Job #2 -Removing Wastes from the cells. In our everyday activities we create waste. The wastes cannot stay in the cells. They would build up and prevent the cells from doing their job. In our everyday activities we create waste. The wastes cannot stay in the cells. They would build up and prevent the cells from doing their job.  The circulatory system carries the waste to other parts of the body where they are removed from the body

The Heart The heart is a muscle and its job is to pump blood to all of the cells in your body. The heart is a muscle and its job is to pump blood to all of the cells in your body. The heart is the strongest muscle in the human body The heart is the strongest muscle in the human body It pumps the blood to your brain cells, nerves, and bone cells. It pumps the blood to your brain cells, nerves, and bone cells. It pumps 24 hours a day without a break. It pumps 24 hours a day without a break.

FACTS ABOUT HEART The Heart is about the size of your fist and is located in the middle of your chest, slightly to left. The Heart is about the size of your fist and is located in the middle of your chest, slightly to left. Its upper chambers are the right atrium and left atrium. The lower chambers are the right ventricle and the left ventricle. Its upper chambers are the right atrium and left atrium. The lower chambers are the right ventricle and the left ventricle. Arteries pump oxygenated blood to your body; away from heart Arteries pump oxygenated blood to your body; away from heart Veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart and then to the lungs. Veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart and then to the lungs.

Terms Red Blood Cells- Carry oxygen & carbon dioxide to & from the lungs. Produced in the bone marrow. Red Blood Cells- Carry oxygen & carbon dioxide to & from the lungs. 9 Terms Blood Platelets- Aid blood in clotting to help stop bleeding. Blood Platelets- Aid blood in clotting to help stop bleeding. Plasma- Liquid part of blood. About 90% water Plasma- Liquid part of blood. About 90% water Blood is made up of 45% cells and 55% plasma Blood is made up of 45% cells and 55% plasma
