1
What is a project?
2
A project is a temporary work performed to produce a unique product or service.
3
Characteristics of a project A PROJECT: has a start and end time creates something new is performed by people & teams is constrained by resources AND A PROJECT IS planned, executed and controlled
4
What a project is not Day-to-day work Routine activities Repetitive tasks On-going work
5
Elements of a project Objectives Team Resources Budget Risks Deadlines (Time) Quality
6
Project management Project management is the application of knowledge, skills and techniques to execute projects effectively and efficiently In a simpler way: “Plan the work and then work the plan” Project management explained simply video
7
Don´t forget: 6 P’s Proper planning prevents poor project performance The project manager blues video
8
Stages in Technological Projects DDescribing the problem FFinding a solution DDesigning the idea EExecuting the design EEvaluating
9
1.Describing the problem Identify the problem and define its conditions.
10
Stages in Technological Projects 2.Finding a solution Search for information from different sources: books, catalogues, Internet, etc. Draw sketches of different ideas. Agree on the best solution for the problem.
11
Stages in Technological Projects 3.Designing the idea. Draw plans and measurements of each part of the project Design the work plan, describing the steps of the construction phase and the necessary materials and tools for each step.
12
Stages in Technological Projects 4.Executing the design. Construct the product, following the steps of the work plan.
13
Stages in Technological Projects 5.Evaluating. Has the problem been solved? Yes: the project is finished. No: revise the technological process.

Your Project Building a Model Train
15
What is the old train called? What did the train transport originally?
16
What was the reason for the line blockages on the railway? What was the visor made of?
17
What is the old railway used for nowadays? Watch video Watch video
18
Your Project Given the relevance of “The Carreño”, we are going to build a model of the train to learn how it works. Materials: Wood Recycled milk cartons Threaded metal rod Wooden sticks Plastic wheels
19
Dimensions: Length:25 cm Width:10 cm Height:10 cm Wheel diameter:5 cm Length of the tracks:1 m Overhead power cable situated at 20 cm height
20
Electrical components: 1 motor 1 one-way switch 1 two-way switch 2 limit switches 2 LEDs (green and red) 2 resistors 2 batteries
21
Features: The train must make a tour of 1m forwards and backwards It must stop automatically at the end of the route A green light will remain on when it goes forwards A red light will remain on when it goes backwards
