9 What was the Sugar Act? o The Sugar Act was a tax that colonists were required to pay when buying sugar, molasses, and other goods. o Parliament passed the Sugar Act on April 5, 1764.

10 Colonists had to pay taxes on: – Sugar – Molasses – Certain wines – Coffee – Pimiento – Cambric and printed calico – Lumber and iron

23 What is the Tea Act? o Parliament passed the Tea Act on May 10, 1773. o The Tea Act was a law that gave a monopoly to the East India Trading Company. Colonists could only buy tea from this company, or they were taxed harshly.
