Lupus Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can affect almost any part of your body, including your joints, skin, kidneys, heart, lungs, or blood. Lupus can also affect the nervous system and brain. The nervous system has three parts, any of which may be affected by lupus. The central nervous system (CNS)—The brain and spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system (PNS)—The network of nerves that connects the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body, and gives skin and muscles the signals needed for sensation and movement. The autonomic nervous system (ANS)—Allows communication between spinal and peripheral nerves and the brain and internal organs, and controls functions like breathing, blood flow, and heart rate.

What other systems does it work with? Skeletal- Bones provide calcium that is essential for proper functioning of the nervous system. Cardiovascular- The brain regulates heart rate and blood pressure. Muscular- Receptors in muscles provide the brain with information about body position and movement. Respiratory- the brain monitors respiratory volume and blood gas levels. Reproductive- Reproductive hormones affect brain development and sexual behavior. Digestive- Digestive process provide the building blocks for some neurotransmitters.

What parts make up the nervous system? Neurons - are perfect for carrying the electrical messages that are the “language” of the nervous system. Brain- is the command center of the body. Spinal Cord- is a tube of neurons that runs up the spine and attaches to the brain stem.

What role does the nervous system play? If you think of the brain as a central computer that controls all bodily functions, then the nervous system is like a network that relays messages back and forth from the brain to different parts of the body. When a message comes into the brain from anywhere in the body, the brain tells the body how to react.

Lung cancer. Lung cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the lungs. Lung cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in one or both lungs. These abnormal cells do not carry out the functions of normal lung cells and do not develop into healthy lung tissue.

What parts make up the respiratory system? There are 3 major parts of the respiratory system: the airway, the lungs, and the muscles of respiration. The airway, which includes the nose, mouth, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and bronchioles, carries air between the lungs and the body’s exterior.

What other systems does it work with? Skeletal- This system is responsible for protecting the inner body. Digestive- The digestive system breaks down food into simpler substances that the body can use including proteins. Circulatory- This system transports the food nutrients, and oxygen to the body cells. It also delivers of carbon dioxide and waste products. Muscular- The muscular system helps push air come into and leave the respiratory system through the contraction and relaxation of the diaphragm. Nervous- It helps the respiratory system by allowing you feel and know when you are breathing and have somewhat control of it.

What role does the respiratory system play in the body? The primary function of the respiratory system is to supply the blood with oxygen in order for the blood to deliver oxygen to all parts of the body.

Dermatomyositis dermatomyositis is an inflammatory disorder of your muscles, also known as an inflammatory myopathy. Bacterial or viral infections and parasites are thought to provoke dermatomyositis. Dermatomyositis is also characterized by muscle weakness that gets worse over time.

What other systems does it work with? Skeletal-Most of the muscular system exists for the exclusive purpose of interacting with the skeletal system. Nervous-Sometimes the muscles act as input to the nervous system in sensors such as the golgi sensors, which tell us when muscles are overextended. Circulatory-The circulatory system brings nutrients to the muscles and takes away wastes. Digestive-The muscles of the jaw masticate food, and then muscles along the esophagus move food from the mouth to the stomach. Respiratory-The main interaction between the muscular system and the respiratory system is the diaphragm. It is the movement of the diaphragm that causes the lungs to inflate and deflate.
