What We Should Do? After much thinking, we decided to do something that would help our school reduce our rubbish. Alice Kent (from the council) came to our school to help us brainstorm ideas for our project. When she came in to help us she was full of ideas I think her head was going to burst. After going through some of the rubbish out of the bins, it was obvious that we needed to do something to reduce our food scraps.

Statistics These were the statistics we got after going through some of the rubbish in our bins.

Discussing We decided to do a competition to encourage the kids at our school to put the right sort of rubbish in the right sort of bin. We first thought to do a house competition but it was found too hard to put 9 different bins in the same place. We then decided to do a guess how much rubbish in the bin competition as an opening project and the winner would receive a prize such as a jar of lollies.

Main Project We are reusing bins and painting them to represent the 3 bin colours red for landfill, blue for recycling and green for food scraps. We are getting 3 different sorts of bins. We are placing them in 3 areas. Our recess area, our lunch area and where we meet every morning.
8
Goal 2 weeks later we got Alice Kent to come in and set a goal for us do up until 2016 term 3. We talked about it over lunch and we all agreed to reduce 35% of the rubbish.
9
Results We are painting bins next week and will be opening the project the week after.
