Shortcut Shortcuts are rarely good ideas. This symbolizes the shortcuts to wealth that could possibly be “ill-gotten.” The shortcut is hard to navigate and confusing, much like the conscious of Tom Walker. The lines that show this are: Lines 39-42

Rotten Tree This symbolize the moral decay of society. This also symbolizes the lack of substance in Tom Walker’s life. The lines that show this are: Lines 96-100

Tom Walker Tom Walker symbolizes the greed of society and how easy it is for some people to succumb to temptation. The lines that show this are: Lines 53-54 Lines 232-235

Tom Walker’s New House This symbolizes the emptiness of his life and how fake it is. The outside appears rich but the inside show that he has no substance. The line that show this are: Lines 269-272

The Bible The bible under the mortgage papers symbolizes how money was far more important than anything else to Tom Walker. He cannot find the thing that he thinks will save him. The lines that show this are: Lines 321-323

Storyboard Assignment You will be creating a storyboard with a minimum of six squares. Your job is to start at the beginning of the story and move to the end, recording in both words and pictures the storyline of “The Devil and Tom Walker.” Storyboard Must include: Title with Setting (box 1) Tom Walker (box 2) Tom Walker’s Wife Old Scratch At least two symbols (explain them) Each Box Must Include: Illustration with description/significance
