P – when freedom and liberty become normal for all, then Douglass and the challenges he overcame in his struggle for freedom will be remembered. His life and work will be commemorated by the lives of the people he fought for, who now live with freedom.

C – “freedom,” “instinct,” “beaten to his knees,” “fleshing his dream” connote the challenges Douglass struggled through to achieve his dream of freedom for all.

A – solemn at first, then hopeful and positive about the future

S – Positive, hopeful attitude at first. Shift in this former slave to a more realistic attitude about what Douglass endured. Then a final shift in shall be remembered back to positive and optimistic.

T – (remember – always one complete sentence!) Freedom is not a privilege, but a necessity A strong leader places the needs of others above his or her own
