Friendly letters have five parts: The Heading The Salutation (greeting) The Body The Closing The Signature

The Heading The heading can include your address and the date. In casual, friendly letters your address is not necessary. September 12, 2013 Heading

The Salutation (greeting) Dear_________. The blank is for the name of the person you are writing. After you write the person's name you put a comma (, ). September 12, 2013 Greeting Dear Hero,

The Body The body of the letter is the information you are writing in your letter. September 13, 2013 Body Dear Hero, I am so proud of you and want to thank you for your great service to our nation and to the world. I think of you daily in my prayers and hope that your work will be complete soon, so that you might return to be with those you love. I want you to feel the support and encouragement from our great nation. I hope you find/ feel it as I reach out today. Thank you for your effort and dedication. You are missed, remembered, and honored at home.

The Closing The Closing: In the closing the first word is capitalized and you put a comma after the last word. Some examples of closings are: Sincerely, Your friend, Love, Very truly yours, September 12, 2013 Closing Dear Hero, I am so proud of you and want to thank you for your great service to our nation and to the world. I think of you daily in my prayers and hope that your work will be complete soon, so that you might return to be with those you love.
