2 2 Hi! Hope you are enjoying the numbers and their interesting properties. To really enjoy mathematics you need to practice a lot. So make sure that you complete the worksheets of the previous lessons. Before moving ahead let us revise what you learnt about Numbers in the previous lesson.

3 Revision Miriam was given the work of writing the numbers from 685 to 690. She wrote the answers as 685, 686, 663, 673, 562, 690.  Write the names of the numbers written by Miriam. 6 Revisiting Ones Ones  When objects are grouped in singles then these groups are known as Ones.  All numbers can be expressed in number of Ones in them. 6Copyright © Ed2Net Learning, Inc.

13 Revisiting Hundreds Hundreds  Groups of 10 Tens are known as Hundreds.  All numbers greater than 99 can be expressed in Hundreds along with Tens and Ones. 13Copyright © Ed2Net Learning, Inc.

14 A few examples A bag of marbles has 10 marbles each. If you have 10 such bags, then you have 1 Hundreds of Marbles. If each hen lays 10 eggs and you have a coop of 10 hen then you will have 1 Hundreds of eggs. 16 Thousands  Groups of 100 Tens or 10 Hundreds are known as Thousands.  All numbers greater than 999 can be expressed in Thousands along with Tens and Ones.  The number 1000 contains 10 Hundreds or 100 Tens and is written as One Thousand 16Copyright © Ed2Net Learning, Inc.

18 An Example A town has 10 schools having 100 students each.  The town has 10 Hundreds of students  A collection of 10 Hundreds is known as a Thousand.  1 Thousand is written as 1000 in digits. 21 Place values for double digit numbers… The place values in double digit numbers give the number of Tens and Ones that make the number up. 23 Place values for triple digit numbers… The place values in triple digit numbers give the number of Hundreds, Tens and Ones that make the number up. 25 Place values for four digit numbers…  The place values in four digit numbers give the number of Thousands, Hundreds, Tens and Ones that make the number up.  Four digit numbers consist of four places: The Ones place (This gives the number of Ones) The Tens place (This gives the number of Tens) The Hundreds place (This gives the number of Hundreds) The Thousands place (This gives the number of )  Thousands Hundreds Tens Ones 9563 3721  In the example above, the digits 9 and 3 are in the Thousands, 5 and 7 are in Hundreds, 6 and 2 in Tens and 3 and 1 are in the Ones place. 25Copyright © Ed2Net Learning, Inc.
