New Advanced Higher Subject Implementation Events Drama: Advanced Higher Course Assessment

Course Assessment at Advanced Higher Course Assessment at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher assesses Added Value Courses at Advanced Higher are normally assessed by one or two Components Courses at Advanced Higher are graded A – D, as at present Controlled Assessment of setting, conducting and marking For Drama there are 2 Component/s – a performance and a project No dual running at Advanced Higher in session 2015-16

Advanced Higher – Drama Course Assessment Performance. 60 marks, worth 60% of the overall marks for course assessment. Two sections: Preparation for Performance (10 marks) and Performance (50 marks). Candidates will perform as either an actor or director or designer. Project – Dissertation. 40 marks, worth 40% of the overall marks for course assessment.

Advanced Higher Drama Course Assessment - Performance Progression from Higher Drama Benchmarked against the current Advanced Higher Similar method of assessment to current AH 60 marks, worth 60% of overall course assessment

Advanced Higher Drama Course Assessment - Performance Actor – prepare two contrasting roles, one interactive and one monologue. Perform these roles in front of a ‘live’ audience. The total time will be approximately 20 minutes, with the monologue lasting approximately 3 minutes. Director – prepare a substantial extract and conduct a rehearsal of approximately 3 pages selected by visiting assessor. The rehearsal should last approximately 40 minutes. Designer – design a set and produce a scale set model for a chosen text and produce plans/designs/drawings/etc for two additional production roles.

Advanced Higher Drama Course Assessment - Project PROJECT – DISSERTATION The candidate will produce a dissertation of between 2,500 and 3,000 words on a performance issue of their choice.

Advanced Higher Drama Course Assessment - Project Marks will be awarded for the following: Analysis – in which the performance issue is explained and developed through relevant examples (15 marks) Synthesis – in which the candidate compares and contrasts perspectives(15 marks) Through line – in which the focus is maintained and connects the material leading to a conclusion (10 marks)
