3 INTRODUCTION This power point goes over animals and how their physical characteristics effect where they live and what they eat. There is also a section that goes over baby animals characteristics in comparison to their mothers.

6 CARNIVORE Carnivores eat meat. They have characteristics like sharp teeth and claws to help them catch and eat their food. They are usually at the top of the food chain because they eat other animals. BACK

7 HERBIVORE Herbivores eat plants. These animals have characteristics that help them find and consume food like long necks and teeth that help them chew tuff plants. They usually live in green areas so that they have plenty of food. BACK

8 OMNIVORE Omnivores are animals that eat both plants and animals. They will eat whatever is most available to them, but they need a mix of both meat and vegetables to stay healthy. BACK

9 Where Animals Live Animals live in environments that match there characteristics and eating habits. There are animals that live in water and animals that live on land. Land Animals Water Animals

10 Land Animals Land animals live in environments that match there physical characteristics as well as nutritional needs. For example: o Animals with heavy coat like bears and wolfs live in colder climates while horses live in warmer climates because of their thin coat. o Birds live in trees because they fly and because they eat insects who also live in trees. o A herbivore will live in a green area like a jungle or forest so that they have plenty to eat. 11 Water Animals Fish and other animals that live in the water have gills, fins or other characteristics that make their bodies compatible with the water. Most water animals cannot survive on land with the exception of turtles, alligators, seals and other animals that can breath out of water. Even though they can survive on land, they live in the water because they eat fish and other creatures that live their. BACK

12 BABY ANIMALS Most animal species resemble their mothers as babies. Mammals have their babies and stay with them as they grow. These infants look very much like their mothers and are easy to identify. Other mothers lay eggs and sometimes they babies grow and learn on their own like fish and frogs. They do not always look like their mothers.
