Key Features and Benefits of this Specification Linear assessment and no tiers Assessment of experimental skills through the examination paper Both papers need to be completed in the same session (for Triple)
51
Practical Work Questions on practical work are mixed up with theory in both papers - 20% of questions allotted to questions on practical work. Students are tested on set practical experiments: Planning experiments Plotting graphs Recalling tests for certain substances. Students must know these and be able to predict the expected results and may be asked to evaluate these.

Keyword lists - Design a glossary of terms and learn these. Spellings of technical words need to be correct for mark. Learn the equations you need. Preparation for Science
53
BBC Bitesize, S-cool.co.uk and GCSEpod websites are useful. Grade Gorilla for Physics. It would be useful to have the specification (syllabus). You can get this from the Edexcel website plus examples of exam papers and mark schemes. Available on Yearshares and students own memory stick to use at home Use pupil checklists Support sessions in Science available after school and at lunch time. Resources
54
A Revision Guide is very useful, available from Science department. One needed for each Science. CGP GCSE Science Workbook (Including Answers) Resources
55
Most Common Mistakes- Science Not reading the question properly. Not finishing the paper – timing! Ignoring the marking scheme – allocate marks! Repetition – making the point more than once won’t get you any extra marks. Missing part of a question – e.g. “describe and explain”, don’t forget to explain! Not showing your steps in calculations or forgetting units.
56
Answering 6 mark questions Underline Underline the key words and command words in the information and in the question Structure How many paragraphs will be needed, what will go into each paragraph? Key words Which key words will be needed in order to answer the question? Write a list Proof read Double check your answer checking you have answered the question and for SPaG
57
Ask for help! If you need help, don’t be afraid to ask! Share your worries instead of bottling it up and ending up stressed. You could ask another pupil, or you can ask a teacher for help any time.
