Business as usual (26 Nov. ‘04) Gerard van der Steenhoven Chair (Brian Foster) + discussion afterwards – ITRG has selected cold (SC) technology, but not a design, which may deviate from TESLA considerably – OECD consultative group now replaced by Funding Agencies meetings on the Linear Collider (FALC) but what about the small countries (not in FALC)? – International Linear Collider (ILC): o Accelerating gradient of 35 – 40 MV/m is optimal for costs. o A lot of discussion on organizational matters….. o Test your knowledge of acronyms (next page)!

CERN & DESY (26 Nov. ‘04) Gerard van der Steenhoven CERN (R. Aymar) + discussion – Progress on LHC + 4 experiments, still aimed for 2007 – Prospects fixed-target programme: continuation in 2006 hinges on additional manpower from Member States – ALICE (but ask HA Gustafsson for update!) o Many major problems solves (bump bonding, HPTDC, software) o Very tight schedule for ITS, redesign FEE of TRD DESY (A. Wagner) + discussion – HERA: 94 pb -1 in 2004 (record); expect 0.7 fb -1 by 30/6/’07 – XFEL: 9 EU partn. (MoU), Plan Approval signed (28/9/04)

ESGARD etc. Gerard van der Steenhoven ESGARD (= EU Steering Group on Accel. R&D): – Successful strategy for preparing EU – FP6 proposals – CARE: coordinated accelerator research in Europe (I3): o 4 JRA’s for SRF, Photo-injector, HI proton injector, HF magnets o 3 Networking activities: ELAN (e + e - coll.), BENE ( fact) and HEHIHB (LHC lumi upgrade). o Successful kick-off meeting in Nov. 2004 at DESY. – Approved FP6 Design Studies: o EUROTeV: concerned with LC generic matters (for ILC & CLIC) o EURISOL: -beams ask G Fortuna!
