2 Before starting, you will need:  A Mac ROM, normally present on every Mac OS 8 or 9 install CD.  A generic Mac OS 8 or 9 install CD… Not an install dedicated to a given machine, as often distributed with machines in the past, but a general OS install… OK, let’s go…!

4 You will need an OS ROM from Mac.. This ROM can be found on any Mac OS 8 or 9 install CD; see also numerous forums on this subject.. 10 Here is the first Tab of SheepShaverGUI: 2. In principle, you should then define here the Unix path to a shared folder on your Mac OSX… Installing SheepShaver on a Mac Intel

However, personnaly, I found this shared folder did not work properly, and preferred to create a new (512Mb) disk image, using « Disk Utilities » of OSX, place it in SheepShaver folder, and add it in the above list using the Add button. 12 Here is the first Tab of SheepShaverGUI: 4. Finally, select "Boot from CD-ROM", in order to load Mac OS 9 from the install disk at the 1 st run of SheepShaver… Installing SheepShaver on a Mac Intel

13 At this stage, you should have your 2 hard disks in the SheepShaver folder… Generated using the Create button of SheepShaveGUI Generated using Mac OSX Disk Utilities (new disk image) Installing SheepShaver on a Mac Intel

14 In the second Tab, you setup the size of your Mac window… No comments… Installing SheepShaver on a Mac Intel

15 Third Tab: define the link to keycodes.sdl file Use the Browse button to define the path of this file which is normally situated in your SheepShaver folder Installing SheepShaver on a Mac Intel

16 Fourth Tab: defining serial ports… I did not make anything here.. There are numerous forums on this subject, if needed… Installing SheepShaver on a Mac Intel

17 Fifth Tab: one of the most important settings, memory..! Installing SheepShaver on a Mac Intel

18 Fifth Tab: one of the most important settings, memory..! 1. Define the size of the memory you wish to use in your Mac.. here set at 512 Mb Installing SheepShaver on a Mac Intel

19 Fifth Tab: one of the most important settings, memory..! 2. Use the Browse button to specify the path to Mac ROM I have renamed it Mac_OS_ROM, and placed it in the SheepShaver folder Installing SheepShaver on a Mac Intel

20 And the final Tab… Be sure to check the Enable JIT Compiler checkbox… Installing SheepShaver on a Mac Intel

21 And that’s all..! Just click on Start button, with the Mac OS install CD in the disk drive… Important Notes: - Mac Install CD should be loaded in the disk drive before loading SheepShaverGUI (i.e. before the first step of this tutorial…) - SheepShaver should start on the CD, and you are ready to install MacOS (8.5 to 9.0.2 recommended) - and finally…. 23 A few tips… (1) I have placed an alias of SheepShaver on OS X desktop, renamed it Mac OS9 HD, and changed its icon… NOTE: this is NOT an alias of the hard disk generated by SheepShaverGUI as explained in previous steps… Installing SheepShaver on a Mac Intel

24 Installing SheepShaver under Windows XP A few tips… (2) I have also placed an alias of the 2nd disk on OS X desktop… This is my way to exchange data between OS X and OS 9… Installing SheepShaver on a Mac Intel
