IB MATH STUDIES INTERNAL ASSESSMENT Interpretation of Results and Validity
2
1: Interpretation of Results There are 2 scenarios for this component. (1) Your Chi-Square test concluded with the variables being dependent. (2) Your Chi-Square test concluded with the variables being independent.
3
Dependent Variables Interpretation of Results: This result allows you to use your observed results to make claims. What do you see in your data (observed results) that is unexpected? What makes this unexpected result in your data important to your papers research question? What inferences can you make about this unexpected result? Who would find it important and why?
4
Independent Variables Interpretation of Results: So your test did not come out the way you wanted it to. Why? What is in your observed results that makes no sense with your research question? Quantities of cells in your observed results that are almost equal to the same cells in your expected results are to blame for the lack of a relationship. You should be able to discuss them and explain why they turned out so close.
5
2: Validity Data collection errors: Were your categories set up appropriately? Were your variables even worth comparing? Did you have enough surveys/data points? Was your data appropriate for your research question? Was your research question appropriate for the data collected? Did you collect data from the appropriate areas? Did you need more geographical diversity? Explain why you needed to correct these errors do not simply state the error.
