INTERN TRAINING Data Entry
2
NMMR SYSTEM After the physical mine map is scanned and a data entry sheet is filled out by hand it will be entered into the NMMR database. This database is accessed by: Public and private entities, to request mine maps Us, to fulfil mine map requests from public and private entities
3
The NMMR Digital Database
4
How to enter a data sheet
5
Add Menu
7
Document Number Must have 6 digits No. of Aperture Card Scenes This is the number of scenes the document number has It should be printed on the data sheet If it is not, search the computer for the document number and view the scans There is a MAX of 99 scenes Cross Reference # Type exactly what is on the data sheet Year of Map The year the map was created Not the year you are entering the information
9
State Chose state from dropdown menu If the datasheet has 2 states: The second state will get its own entry in the database with the SAME doc #
10
County Choose county from dropdown menu The County list corresponds with chosen State If multiple counties are listed on datasheet check the box next to “ 2 nd ? ” to add another county If the mine spans over more than 2 counties The counties which contain the most working of the mine should be used in the drop down boxes write the others in the “ remarks ” section
11
Multiple counties “ Multiple Counties ” Should only be used for a map that contains several counties
12
Quad Choose Quad from dropdown menu The Quad list corresponds with the chosen State and County Up to 3 Quads can be added this way Make sure to choose corresponding county (either 1 or 2) as this will determine which quads are shown to you
13
Map source Where we received the map from Who brought it to us Who did we receive it from Not found on the Map
15
Company Name Copied from data sheet “ Company ” should be abbreviated with “ CO ” Mine Name Copied from data sheet Replace all “ No. ” with “ # ” IF THERE ARE MULTIPLE MINE NAME S ON THE DATA SHEET A separate entry must be made for each mine on the map into the database using the SAME doc # No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 Use the name of the company and a number sign “#” Consolidated # 2 Mine Type Copied from data sheet If marked unknown, reference the map file and change it to the appropriate type MSHA ID# Leave blank unless working with an MSHA map
17
Certified Always “NO” Exception: If the map explicitly states it is certified If the data sheet says yes; DOUBLE CHECK! Final Map Unknown Unless explicitly stated on the map If data sheet says yes; DOUBLE CHECK Aperture Card Available If the physical map has just been scanned then it does not yet have an aperture card made If you are entering an older datasheet, check the drawers to see if it has a matching aperture card Scanned If the physical map has been scanned; Yes If not; No
19
Commodity Choose from drop down menu Ex. Coal, Zinc, Gold There are enough spaces for 4 types Coal Bed Also known as a seam or vein Choose from drop down menu Ex. Upper Freeport, Powellton, Orchard, etc. They are not listed alphabetically Look carefully when searching for the bed name There are enough spaces for 4 bed names If there are more write them in the “Remarks” section
21
Location information is very important!! This is how we will georeference and then digitize the maps, so it needs to be as accurate as possible As much information as possible needs to be entered here Copy from data sheet If this section of the data sheet is not filled out and you must search for the coordinates if you enter Lat/Long as DMS it will automatically fill in the Lat/Long in DD TRS can be converted from Lat/Long using a website called Earthpoint.us
23
Map Condition Copy from datasheet Choose from dropdown menu Should not be “NOT AVAILABLE” Select GOOD if the map is in excellent/pristine condition. All features are easily seen and all data on the map is easily read. Select POOR if map is falling apart or impossible to read. Most maps are FAIR Somewhere in the middle of GOOD and POOR Must select and entry here or the database will not allow the map to be submitted Map Scale Copy from data sheet Special Circumstance: Multiple Scales Vertical and Horizontal Put vertical scale in scale box and make note of horizontal scale in “Remarks”. Two separate drawings on same page Will have two separate entries Same drawing-different sizes (zoomed in) Write this in “Remarks”
25
Adjacent Mines Any other mines shown/listed on the map should be recorded as “Adjacent Mines” They should also have their own entry into the database using the SAME DOC# Available Geo Information Copy from data sheet Geolocated Point Description Copy from data sheet If you had to find the location This is anything that describes where your coordinates came from, such as: river, stream, intersection, street, town, city, borough, etc. Location Assurance Copy from data sheet If you had to do location information yourself APPROXIMATE is if you have found the exact lat/long for the mine UNCERTAIN is if you are in the right township or general vicinity of the mine but unsure of the exact location of the mine UNKNOWN is if you are unable to pull any locational data from the map Mark “Location Verified” Remarks Copy from data sheet
26
Before you click on DOUBLE CHECK YOUR LOCATION Negative sign in decimal degrees? Do your numbers make sense based on location? Check the back of the data sheet Are the more mine names that need to have a separate entry Is there more information that needs to go into the “Remarks” section
27
Research If for any reason, the datasheet that you are entering is incomplete, or incorrect DO YOUR RESEARCH! Open the map file and look at it as if you were filling out the data sheet It may take you a bit longer to enter the data this way, but remember: THIS IS NOT A RACE! We would rather you do the work correctly and it take a little longer than have to redo the work because it was done wrong the first time.
28
Submitted Your entry will not be added until you see If you click on and you do not see the above message, your map has not been added You must search for a red error message beneath the text boxes to see which needs corrected Once corrected, click on the and it will submit
