Students are encouraged to take more challenging work at the secondary level Universities assign extra weight to grades in honors-level courses (for B or higher) Most AP (Advanced Placement) classes are taken the junior and/or senior year of high school AP Physics available for sophomores in good academic standing All grades in required courses for colleges must be a C or higher +1

Learn how to organize and present data in maps using ArcMap software and ArcGIS Online. Participate in a DNA barcoding lab experience ◦ characterize species of organisms based on a short DNA sequence. ◦ Get a scientific publication to your name Qualifies as a college preparatory elective under the g subject requirement in the A-G list of approved courses.

Q Registration Step 4: “Add Selected Class”, and click SUBMIT Continue this process until you have selected BOTH “A” or “1” and “B” or “2” classes. Please click “Submit” only once, even if you get an error message. Check your schedule an hour later.

Q Registration Step 5: “Add Selected Course” Step 6: Select Alternates for electives or for classes that will be taken in summer school The right hand column is where your first choices go…in this case, the 1 st choice is Journalism and the alternate is Ceramics You can select alternate courses in case you do not get your first choice. First select those courses in the Add/Edit Requests mode. In the example to the left, Journalism 1, Journalism 2, Ceramics 1 and Ceramics 2 are already requested. Journalism is the FIRST choice, and Ceramics is the alternate. NOTE: DO NOT request the same alternate for more than one course. In the Add/Edit Requests mode, click the alternate course’s drop down menu in the “Alternate For” column, and select your first choice course. Click SUBMIT when done.

Q Registration Step 9: When done adding classes, and after you have printed your schedule, click “Sign Out” Your registration window begins today, February 23 rd and ends Thursday, February 25 th at midnight.

Glendale Educational Foundation Summer School ◦ Registration: check online at http://www.gefsummerschool.org ◦ Payment by check or money order ◦ Enrichment Summer School ◦ Clark Counselor must sign your application ◦ You may NOT sign up for World History or Biology ◦ Applications will be available March 1 st Regular Payment $570 for a full year course $285 for a one semester course For those on Free/Reduced Lunch $470 for a full year course $235 for a one semester course There will be NO refunds for dropping or not completing a course once it has begun.

All sophomores are encouraged to take the PSAT/NMSQT on October 19 th. They will be sold in the office at the end of September. Be sure to read the bulletin. This will be a preview for you of the SAT. As an11th grader you will enter the competition for scholarships from National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Additional benefits of the PSAT Exam: ◦ Connects students to colleges and universities across the country and to scholarship organizations. ◦ Prepares students for the new SAT and college and fuels practice recommendations on Khan Academy (free personalized and focused practice)! ◦ Matches students with AP courses that make the most of their academic strengths. AP classes can provide an edge in the college admission process, and an opportunity to earn college credit.
