Internet The Internet is a global network connecting millions of computers. The Internet is used to send information quickly between computers around the world. Created by the United States Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and connected in 1969 Internet Service Provider (ISP), refers to a company that provides Internet services, including personal and business access to the Internet Panayiotis Christodoulou

World Wide Web The World Wide Web ("WWW" or "The Web") is the part of the Internet that contains websites and web pages. In order to see the World Wide Web one needs a computer and a computer program called a web browser. One also needs a connection to the Internet Panayiotis Christodoulou

Web Servers and HTTP A web server is a computer system that processes requests via HTTP, the basic network protocol used to distribute information on the World Wide Web The Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is an application protocol for distributed, collaborative, hypermedia information systems. HTTP is the foundation of data communication for the World Wide Web. Hypertext is structured text that uses logical links (hyperlinks) between nodes containing text. Web Site A website, also written as web site is a set of related web pages typically served from a single web domain. A website is hosted on at least one web server, accessible via a network such as the Internet or a private local area network Panayiotis Christodoulou

Web Page A web page is a web document that is suitable for the World Wide Web and the web browser. A static web page is delivered exactly as stored, as web content in the web server's file system, while a dynamic web page is generated by a web application that is driven by server-side software. Dynamic web pages help the browser to enhance the web page through user input to the server. Panayiotis Christodoulou

Web Browsers A web browser is a software application for retrieving and presenting information resources on the World Wide Web. Although browsers are primarily intended to use the World Wide Web, they can also be used to access information provided by web servers in private network. Panayiotis Christodoulou

Web address An internet address of a website, file, or document in the general format http://www.address.com/directories/filename Every computer connected to the internet has its unique web address, without which it cannot be reached by other computers. Search Engines A web search engine is a software system that is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. The search results are generally presented in a line of results often referred to as search engine results pages (SERPs) and depend on your search criteria. Addressing An E-mail When you send an email, you have three field choices: “to”, “cc”, and “bcc”. Here is how to use each field: To: enter the email addresses of the people the email is targeted to Cc: enter the email addresses of the people you want to know about the email (remember that everyone will see their names) Bcc: enter the email addresses of the people you want to know about the email but not announce to everyone else that they are getting a copy Panayiotis Christodoulou

Email Software An email client, email reader is a computer program used to access and manage a user's email. Popular locally installed email clients include Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla's Thunderbird, Pegasus Mail, etc A web application that provides message management, composition, and reception functions is sometimes also considered an email client, but more commonly referred to as webmail.
