Examine the following events and try to figure out what the TRUE motive was behind each event by finishing the sentence: 1. Gene wants to be head of the class because… 2. Finny wants to keep his swimming record secret because… 3. Brinker desires to enlist in the war because… 4. Leper desires to enlist in the war because… 5. Gene is mean to Leper because… 6. 4 Warm-up: In groups of 5, you will be creating poster presentations which analyze one of the following topics: 1. What do at least 2 of the following events reveal about Finny: BlitzBall, Winter Olympics, Finny’s swim record (3 & 9)? 2. Which Biblical allusions are present in the book and what is the author trying to reveal through these allusions? (4) 3. How is Gene’s internal conflict similar to the external conflict that is occurring in the setting outside of Devon? (4) 4. Explain the symbolism of the river & the seasons (6 & 7)? 5. What is the importance of Leper’s character in the story (7 & 10)? 6. How does Finny change after his accident? 7. What is the story’s climax? What is the importance and irony of the falling action (11-13)?
