ARC’s Integrated Planning Process Program Review Comprehensive review of program. Outcomes are created to address identified strengths and challenges to improve student learning Resources Needed to achieve outcomes Evaluation of Outcomes and Resources Assessment of progress on outcomes and resources SLO Assessment Resulting fromthe assessment process, actions are created to improve student learning at the course, program, & institutional level. Data Quantitative and qualitative data used to evaluate outcomes Educational Master Plan Outcomes are created through program review, SLO assessment & department planning

The First EMP.. Step 1: Department chairs fill out paper forms Step 2: Deans, AVPs &VPs review stacks of paper forms Step 3: President receives a three foot stack of paper And then the completed EMPS sat….
8
The real questions… “How do I request new equipment for our lab for next year?” “My department needs additional faculty offices. How do I request them?” “How many new faculty positions have been requested for next year??”
9
We have come a long way! Are we ever going to STOP changing the EMP?
10
The answer is No! The institution assures the effectiveness of its ongoing planning and resource allocation processes by systematically reviewing and modifying, as appropriate, all parts of the cycle, including institutional and other research efforts Evaluation and improvement of our planning process is an essential aspect of continuous quality improvement. source: ACCJC Standard II.B

2013 EMP Changes Responded to feedback from EMP users: Too many objectives and resources to evaluateToo many objectives and resources to evaluate Unclear evaluation questionsUnclear evaluation questions (e.g., What impact does receiving this resource have on the college?) Unclear on the difference between objective and resourceUnclear on the difference between objective and resource No differentiation of current and long-term resource needsNo differentiation of current and long-term resource needs

Outcomes vs Resources Outcome (formerly known as objective) Identification and evaluation of the results of an activity, plan, process, or program and their comparison with the intended or projected results or output measures Resource An economic or productive factor required to accomplish an outcome OR a means to undertake an enterprise and achieve a desired outcome. Four basic resources are space, staff, equipment, and funding. source: http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/resource.html#ixzz2JaQYaWqb

Special Attention: Remember ~ Outcomes cannot be marked “completed” or “no longer applicable” if resources continue to be requested for that outcome. Therefore ~ all resources not associated with current outcomes have been removed from the current EMP.
