Cyberbullying and Cyberstalking BY MS. BARBARA WOOLLEY

According to Cyberbullying: The Ultimate Guide “Up to 7 in 10 young people experience cyberbullying before the age of 18.”

Cyberbullying Cyberbullying is the use of digital technologies with an intent to offend, humiliate, threaten, harass or abuse another individual. Examples include: repeated rude or inappropriate text messages or emails, rumors sent be email or posted on social networking sites, and embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles.

Cyberstalking Cyberstalking is much like cyberbullying, it refers to virtually pursuing an individual with the intent to intimidate, harass, or cause harm. Examples include: the spreading of lies, rumors, or insults targeting a person for the purpose of intimidation, as well as posting personal information about a person on digital technologies that can do serious harm to the victim. Some victims harm themselves rather than enduring the online abuse.

What you should do if bullied or stalked:  Report cyberbullying or cyberstalking to a trusted adult.  Don’t respond to or forward their messages.  Keep evidence of each occurrence. Record the dates, times, and descriptions of when they occurred. Save and print screenshots, emails, and text messages. You will need this evidence to report them.  Block the person who is doing this to you.

Report them to the following: SSchools – we are required by law to report all occurrences. OOnline service providers – they can take action against any users abusing the terms of their service. LLaw Enforcement – certain activities are considered a crime and should be reported. TThreats of violence CChild pornography or sending sexually explicit messages or photos TTaking a photo or video of someone in a place where they would expect privacy SStalking and hate crimes
