1. Cellular Organization: all living things (organisms) are made of one or more cells. 2. Reproduction: necessary to carry on the species. 3. Metabolism: the use and maintenance of energy (sum of all chemical reactions). 4. Homeostasis: Internal control and balance. 5. Heredity: passing of genetic material from parent to offspring. 6. The British Soldier is a producer, it makes its own food. It is a multicellular organism and it is a eukaryote. They make their own food from water and carbon dioxide through photosynthesis. The normal size of a British Soldier is only about ¼ inch high (6mm). To reproduce they travel by wind and start a new fungus. They reproduce asexually. The environmental significance of this organism is they take nitrogen from the air and put it into the soil, so plants can use it. Their habitat is they grow on decaying wood, soil, mossy logs, tree bases, and stumps. Two interesting facts about a British Soldier is: Lichens spread mostly by small pieces of their body being blown around. They get their name from the uniform that British Soldiers wore in the Revolutionary War.
