10 Smart Growth Principles

The Top Smart Growth Principles

Create Walk-able Neighborhoods Walk-able neighborhoods would give people a sense of safety and room. Without areas like this, people wouldn’t want to go to certain places. This is why I think walk-able areas are a must. This would also lead to more forms of transportation like walking or biking. This would then lead to less pollution. This gives higher health, a great environment, and an excellent quality of life. Walk-able neighborhoods would give people a sense of safety and room. 9 Mix Land Uses Using a space only for one purpose would either lead to less time or a cramped space. Therefore, using lands for multiple purposes would help give more land and needed time. It would also allow more community clubs and areas for peaceful parks and serene scenes.

Preserve Open Space, Farmland, Natural Beauty and Crucial Environmental Areas Farmlands and open spaces would be good areas for growing plants. This would lead to more food choices, supporting health. It would also help give athletic activities like a walk-a-thon. The plants growing would also give lots of oxygen, limiting pollution.

Strengthen and Direct Development Towards Existing Communities Using past buildings would be easier to fix rather than destroying and building new places. Old buildings may have been extraordinary because of what happened in them. They may become good tourist attractions, bringing more people. But fixing old areas would be most useful because of little costs.

Compact Buildings Small compact buildings would give more space in a community. These buildings could have more uses, or lead to more with space saved from using huge buildings. Extra space would be useful for thousands of things. Building more residential or industrial areas are some, for example, but can also be used for parks.

Ending of income or support for money. Leads to bad areas. Abandoned areas.

Housing Affordability More Choices

Community Anchors I feel that schools are anchors of the community because people come together with their children at a certain point of time to make schools a better place to learn and succeed.

Reuse aging buildings Developing abandoned buildings. Working on older areas can reduce costs of building materials and give more money.

Mixed Land Uses Mix land uses are better than a single land use because it makes the community a better place in beauty wise. It gives more options for people to decide on what they can do in that area. Another thing is that they are more convenient for workers to work and better use of space.

Open Space It is important to preserve open space in order to provide more recreational space. We can also redesign the community and build more residential places.

Buses can bring a large amount of people to many areas, making it more efficient than taxis and less polluting than many cars. Biking gives no pollution and needs little energy. More bikes would provide health by lessening pollution and increasing exercise. Walking gives more exercise and gives off the least amount of pollution.

Noise from neighbors can be annoying, so providing thicker walls with fire proof things would make homes safe and quiet. Parking can be hard in compact areas so having larger driveways can help get more people. A huge park near to compact buildings not only provide open space for people but also encourages walking and biking.

Smart Growth of a Newark Area

Single and Two family Residential Open space and Recreation High Rise Multi- Family Vacant land Parking Retail

Single and 2 Family Residential Small and Mid-rise Multi- family Education Religious and Charitable Commercial corridor

 Little parking, medical and governmental areas, office and mix land uses, and little unused areas.  There are Churches by the small amount of schools.  There is large but few open spaces.  There is lots of single and two family houses.
