12. PARTS OF KIDNEY Renal capsule : outer membrane that surrounds the kidney ; it is thin but tough and fibrous Renal pelvis : basin- like area that collects urine from the nephrons, it narrows into the upper end of the ureter Nephron : these are the filtration units in the kidneys

13. BLADDER  The urinary bladder is a muscular sac in the pelvis, just above and behind the public bone  When it is emptied it is the size of pear  The bladder stores urine, allowing urination to be infrequent and voluntary  The normal capacity of the bladder is 400 to 600 mL.
