What is the hallmark of good type?

Legibility Refers to clarity how readily one letter can be distinguished from all the others. Readability Refers to how well letters interact to compose words, sentences and paragraphs.

Create a font Activity Font must be legible and readable Activity Process Step 1 - Draw font on template Step 2 - Photograph font template Step 3 - Add photo to computer Step 4 - Trace font in Illustrator Step 5 - Submit to Google Drive

Step 1: Draw Font on Template Draw font on paper Decide what type of font (serif or sans serif) Be consistent in your design Why only these letters? M - wide letter; could possibly take up 1.5 or 2 spaces, depending on how you design. O - gives way to Q, C, G & sometimes D. R - good start for what the serifs (if you are doing serifs) will look like for straight & slanted letters (eg, T, X, A, etc). A good beginning for B as well. S - good start to B, while also showing you all the curves. f - lowercase ascender g - descender

Step 2: Photograph Font Template Use classroom camera or Smartphone camera to photograph font template If you use Smartphone email photo to yourself If using classroom camera use USB plug or I can email to you. Step 3: Add Photo to Computer

Step 4: Trace font in Illustrator Create new document in Illustrator 8.5x11 landscape (File>New) Place photo of template (File>Place) Trace font (pen tool or pencil tool) Delete template when finished tracing Save in AI file format named lastname+firstname+customfont New Typography folder in Google Drive Project 3>Typography Step 5: Submit to Google Drive
