What is a compound sentence? com·pound sen·tence noun noun: compound sentence; plural noun: compound sentences a sentence with more than one subject or predicate. EXAMPLES: I think I will buy the red car, or I will lease the blue one. I really want to go to work, but I am too sick to drive. I am counting my calories, yet I really want dessert.

Kinds of sentences Imperative An imperative sentence gives a direct command. It can end in a full stop or an exclamation mark, depending on the forcefulness of the command. Clear this desk by tomorrow! Please tidy your room. Declarative makes a statement Larry got in trouble for cheating on a test.
