Defining Applied Behavior Analysis
"Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the science in which tactics derived from the principles of behavior are applied to improve socially significant behavior and experimentation is used to identify the variables responsible for improvement in behavior." (Cooper, Heron, Heward, 2007)
7
Defining Applied Behavior Analysis
"In a functional behavior-analytic approach, behavior is viewed as functional (i.e., purposeful) for certain antecedents contexts behavior of the contingency or contingencies involved." (Cipani & Schock, 2011) "Principle of Behavior: A statement describing a functional relation between behavior and one or more of its controlling variables with generally across organisms, species, settings, behaviors, and time (e.g., extinction, positive reinforcement); an empirical generalization inferred from many experiments demonstrating the same functional relation." (Cooper, Heron, Heward, 2007)

Defining Applied Behavior Analysis
"ABA's natural science approach to discovering environmental variables that reliably influence socially significant behavior and developing a technology to take practical advantage of those discoveries offers humankind its best hope for solving many of its problems." (Cooper, Heron, Heward, 2007)
