Submit Safety Contract Record on grade sheet if submitted or not!

Safety Rules Review Where is the fire extinguisher? Where is the eye wash? Where do we meet in case of a fire? Where is the shower? Where is the fire blanket? Where is the phone? Where is your nearest exit?
5
Scientific Method Date:
6
Chemistry Definition: is the study of matter and the changes that it undergoes. Rewrite this definition in terms that an elementary student would understand.
7
Scientific Method 1.State the problem/purpose What will you be investigating? 2.Gather information What research is necessary to investigate problem? 3.Hypothesis A tentative explanation of some regularity of nature.
8
4.Experiment Completing the investigation. 5.Record and Analyze Data Collecting the data to prove a point! 6.Conclusions What does all the data mean?
9
Beyond the Scientific Method A theory is a TESTED explanation of basic natural phenomena. – MUST be tested many times – To be valid, MUST allow you to predict future results A Scientific law is a theory proven correct and there are no exceptions. – An explanation of a natural occurrence.
10
Observations (data) Could be : qualitative – describe color, odor, shape, etc… quantitative – measured data: temperature, pressure, volume, mass, length Which is better?
11
Variables May be: independent – controlled variable (time, temperature) (X-axis) dependent – changes depending on independent variable (Y-axis) Need a control – a standard to compare the data to.
12
Pepsi Lab 1.State the Problem: Does Pepsi and Caffeine Free Pepsi taste the same? 2.Gather Info: difference in labels 3.Hypothesis: I think Pepsi and Caffeine Free Pepsi taste different/the same 4.Experiment: – Cups with Pepsi & 1 cup with C.F Pepsi – Taste both and see if there is a difference. 5.Record/Analyze Data Difference No difference 6.Conclusions:
