* Legal harvesting times * Thirty (30) minutes before official sunrise Thirty (30) minutes after official sunset Exception to these times would be if the individual has a special permit, usually only issued to culture lease holders

Recreational Harvesting Individual must have a recreational saltwater license Individual may only harvest two of seven days for shellfish (any shellfish, NOT 2 days for clams then 2 for oysters) Recreational harvesters can harvest on public shellfish and state grounds (unless closed by DHEC) They can also harvest on culture leases with permission from the lease holder – personal limit card Recreational harvest season is October 1 – May 15 Recreational harvesters are not required to have a map

U.S. Bushel = 8 gallons (they can use any kind of container they want) Recreational limits: Two US Bushels of oysters and one- half US Bushel of clams Regardless of the number of persons, there is a maximum possession limit of 3 personal limits per boat or vehicle or boat/vehicle combination Recreational Harvesting

Commercial Harvesting (State Grounds) Harvester must have a saltwater commercial license, a state shellfish ground license, and a hand-harvest license Harvester must have a state shellfish ground harvest permit (green hard card) Harvester can have no more than FIVE decals on the state ground card Harvester must have embossed maps that match the areas on the decals Harvester can only harvest on those areas specified on the state shellfish ground hard card (even if he is harvesting recreationally)

State Shellfish Ground Harvest Permit (Hard Card) Must have a current stamp for any ground they harvest (match shellfish tags to the harvest card)

Commercial Harvesting (Culture) Harvester must have a saltwater commercial license and hand-held license Harvester must have a culture harvest permit (tan hard card) Harvester’s culture hard card must have yellow decal with the proper permit ground number on the card Harvester may have unlimited number of culture decals on the culture hard card Culture permit ground season is October 1 to May 15 (oysters) or May 31 (clams) unless they have a special permit (paper) Map is not required

(a) Minimum Size 3 Inches Fishermen shall harvest only those oysters which measure 3 inches or more from hinge to lip. Except that smaller oysters directly attached to large oysters may be harvested incidentally if they cannot be removed without destroying one or both oysters. (b) Cull in Place Fishermen shall cull oysters where harvested and all removable oysters smaller than 3 inches, accumulated dead shell, and cultch material shall immediately be returned to the bottom from which it was harvested. Clusters are OK provided that they have SOME large oysters. No clumps of small oysters only. Dead shell at base of cluster should be removed. Small oysters which are easily removed should be.

COMMERCIAL HARVESTERS Must have current map for each SSG they harvest Check open dates – they may be different for each ground Map must be embossed Recreational Harvesters are not required to have map. Grounds are open for recreational harvest for the entire season.
