1 LCISD Junior High Final Exam Exemption Policy (Spring 2016)

2 Final Exam Exemptions Who?  7 th & 8 th Grade Students What?  Students skip their exam to get a reward. When?  Final Exams (May 30 – June 2, 2016) Where?  On their campus. LJH will host students in the gym or cafeteria. Why?  Reward for already proving they know the material.  Incentive to keep working hard 2 nd semester.

3 Requirements to earn the Exemption Class Average Absences Discipline Fines

4 Class Average 80% or above in the class the child wants to exempt. Can only exempt core classes (ELA, Science, Math, History) Average based on 4 th, 5 th, and 6 th six weeks. Teacher will do the calculation and sign off if the average is 80%+.

5 Six Weeks Exam Average The following criteria will not go into effect until Fall 2016. 75% or above in the class the child wants to exempt. Average would be based on the 3 District Six Weeks Exam grades. Teacher will do the calculation and sign off if the average is 80%+.

6 Requirements to earn the Exemption Class Average Absences Discipline Fines

7 Class Absences (Attendance) No more than 3 absences during the class period they have the core class to exempt. The attendance office will do the calculation and sign off if the absences are 3 or below for that period.

8 Are there absences that do NOT count towards my 3?

9 Requirements to earn the Exemption Class Average Absences Discipline Fines

10 Discipline No more than 3 office referrals TOTAL. No more than 1 assignment to ISS not to exceed 3 days. No assignments to ALC or suspensions.

11 Requirements to earn the Exemption Class Average Absences Discipline Fines

12 No outstanding textbooks or fines. (AP’s Office) No outstanding library books or fines (Librarian – Denise Evans)

13 Other Questions How many classes can my child exempt?  7 th Grade (2)  8 th Grade (3)

14 Other Questions What core classes count for 7 th grade?  English  Reading  Math  Science  Texas History

15 Other Questions What core classes count for 8 th grade?  ELA  8 th Math or Algebra  Science  U.S. History

16 Other Questions When will my child get their form?  Sometime in mid-May after STAAR testing.  During Advisory class.  Student responsible to get signatures and turn in form.

17 Other Questions What do students do if they are exempted?  Students still need to attend school.  Administrators will monitor students in the Gym or Cafeteria during their exemption.
