FANCY POETRY TALK The Clown is Back!!!
3
But first, an awesome poem Good Morning – Midnight – I'm coming Home – Day – got tired of Me – How could I – of Him? Sunshine was a sweet place – I liked to stay – But Morn – didn't want me – now – So – Goodnight – Day! I can look – can't I – When the East is Red? The Hills – have a way – then – That puts the Heart – abroad – You – are not so fair – Midnight – I chose – Day – But – please take a little Girl – He turned away!
4
Exact Rhyme This one’s simple! With Blue—uncertain stumbling Buzz— Between the light—and ME— And then the Windows failed—and then I could not see to SEE—
5
Slant Rhyme Not so fast, people who think you know how to rhyme! Slant rhyme: The final consonant sounds are similar! I heard a fly buzz—when I died— The Stillness in the Room Was like the Stillness in the Air— Between the Heaves of Storm—
6
Alliteration Repeating CONSONANT SOUNDS (usually at the beginning of words). Love, by Memorial Mold *** And they will differ--if they do-- As Syllable from Sound
7
Enjambment Continuing one sentence or sentiment across two or more lines of poetry The brain, within its Groove Runs evenly—and true— +++ I measure every Grief I meet With narrow, probing Eyes;
8
Imagery Uses images and sensory description (sight, smell, touch, sound, taste) familiar to the reader. A Murmur in the Trees – to note – Not loud enough – for Wind – A Star – not far enough to seek – Nor near enough – to find –
9
Personification To give human traits to nonhuman or abstract things. They dropped like Flakes – They dropped like Stars – Like Petals from a Rose – When suddenly across the June A wind with fingers – goes – +++ My Brain -- begun to laugh – I mumbled -- like a fool – And tho' 'tis Years ago -- that Day – My Brain keeps giggling – still.
