1 How to Write an SAQ  The basics:  Use complete sentences  Write 2-3 sentences per question (there are 3 questions – A, B, C)  Don’t label questions A, B, C OR write one long paragraph. Answer part A (not labeled); skip a line then answer part B; skip a line then answer part C  Stay inside the box

2 How to Write an SAQ  The Nitty Gritty  Use SPECIFIC pieces of evidence – VOCABULARY.  EXPLAIN (probably more than you think you do): Don’t just say A causes B or A is a result of B. You need to be specific by saying HOW A causes B or HOW A is a result of B.

3 How to Write an SAQ  Examples  NO: The Enlightenment caused the Great Awakening.  YES: The Enlightenment ideals caused individuals to think more rationally and question religious institutions. Consequently, the colonies shifted away from the religious fanaticism that characterized them during their founding. As a result of this preachers like George Whitefield used religious evangelism the push forward the Great Awakening that encouraged colonists to move back towards religion.
