What is a project? Project=“A piece of work involving careful study of a subject over a period of time, done by school or college students” <by OALD (Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary), 7 th ed, 2005> Who? When? How? (ex) -A history of the conveyer belt sushi bar. -How can university students help children of workers from Latin American countries?

Why do Internet-based project work? 1.A good way to incorporate the Internet into the language classroom. 2.Ready-made projects on the Internet/projects created by teachers. 3.Group work enhances communication and sharing of knowledge 4.Interdisciplinary projects=collaboration of teachers of different subjects 5.Related to the real world of the students 6.Critical thinking is encouraged. Regurgitating information analyzing information and organizing it

Procedure of Internet-based project work (1) Choose the project topic (ex) A history of the conveyer belt sushi bar (2) Make the task clear (ex) How was it invented and developed? Future directions (3) Find the resources on the Internet Teacher’s selection /students’ assignment (4) Decide on the outcome (ex) A PowerPoint presentation with facts, episodes, and pictures

Basic projects See pages 45-50 Internet-based simulations *simulation=“a situation in which a particular set of conditions is created artificially in order to study or experience something that could exist in reality” (ex) --simulation of an earthquake --simulation of living alone See page 53

Webquests (pp. 54-55) A webquest=“An inquiry-oriented activity in which some or all of the information that learners interact with comes from resources on the Internet” Different from projects/simulations because… It has a fairly rigid structure
