What recommendations will you make to the MV City Council to minimize/reduce the impacts to the C.R.’s water quality (if your scenario is approved)? 1.Protect the Riparian Area next to the river: Leave a “buffer zone” (no clearing/building) within 100 feet of the river. This is a minimum width to provide trapping of most sediments, filtering of most pollutants, etc. However, a wider buffer would provide greater benefits.

2. Require developer to install storm water collection and treatment facilities. Simple & low cost methods like Rain Gardens… Or Bioswales.

Or more complex & expensive…

3. Require developer to use porous (or “pervious” or “permeable”) concrete for parking lots and driveways. Material is formulated to allow water (runoff) to percolate through instead of running off the surface.

4. Require that animal waste be collected and composted under cover (to prevent runoff)

5. Require that only slow-release, organic fertilizer be used. 6. No use of pesticides or herbicides on landscaped areas Contains less nitrogen & phosphates and is much better for the environment.
