Notes Tennessee SPI Objective: Identify the reactants and products of a chemical reaction. Science Check for Understanding Make a double-door foldable contrasting reactants and products. Essential Question(s) How do I recognize reactants and products in chemical equations? SPI 0807.9.10 Reactants & Products Instructions for Students 1) Make sure you view this presentation in slideshow mode. 2) You can find instructions about how to do this by doing a Google search or by searching YouTube. 3) After you have it in slideshow mode, press the right-arrow keyboard button to advance through the presentation. 4) If you need help, please communicate with your teacher.

Chemical Reactions Are represented by chemical equations Chemical Equations Have two parts: Notes Science SPI 0807.9.10 Reactants & Products 2H 2 + O 2 2H 2 O Example: (1) reactants and (2) products Reactants (Hydrogen & Oxygen) Product (water) Reactants: are the "ingredients" of a chem reaction. These are the things you are combining… the things you start with. Products: are the things that you produce in a chemical reaction… the things you end up with.

Examine the chemical equation below. This example represents burning charcoal on a BBQ grill Here are the reactants Here are the products Burning Charcoal Reactants: Carbon & Oxygen Product: Carbon Dioxide Plus Sign Yields Sign Identify the reactants and products Notice the chemical symbols and formulas and signs. Reactants: Carbon (C) & Oxygen (O) Product: Carbon Dioxide (CO 2 )
