THE ONE HOLY TRIUNE GOD “The proper study of God’s elect is God; the proper study of the Christian is the Godhead. The highest science, the loftiest speculation, the mightiest philosophy that can ever engage the attention of a child of God, is the name, the nature, the person, the work, the doings, and the existence of the great God whom he calls his Father.” Charles Spurgeon

PRELIMINARIES TO PSALM 15 Not about “how to be saved – justified” It is about “how the saved – justified live” Not about “the conditions to be with God” It is about “the description of those with God” Not qualities initially found in those with God About qualities God creates in those He takes in Does not describe everything about those who are intimate with God, but does give representative descriptions

CLEAN HANDS; PURE HEART; NO IDOLS Idol: anything that competes with God in your heart & mind Idol: “anything so central and essential to your life that, should you lose it, your life would feel hardly worth living” Timothy Keller Colossians 3:5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
11
CLEAN HANDS; PURE HEART; NO IDOLS Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
12
CLEAN HANDS; PURE HEART; NO IDOLS Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. 1 Corinthians 10:31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
13
THE KING OF GLORY 24:7 Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle! 9 Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory!
14
THE KING OF GLORY 1 Timothy 6: 14 until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords Revelation 19:11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
15
THE KING OF GLORY Revelation 3:18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. 19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
16
