1 Francis Drake By: Dondre Armstrong and Austin Long

2 Francis Drake’s life  He was born in Devon, England in 1540  He’s the son of a puritan farmer and a preacher.  He learned sailing as a young man.

3 Life as a privateer Francis drake was given command of his own ship, the Judith. Drake and his cousins sailed to Africa engage in the slave trade. Finally they sailed to New Spain to sell their captives to settlers.

4 Sailing around the world In December, of 1557 he set of the golden hind on his trip around the world. He turned northward and sailed up the coast of Chile and Peru attacking and destroying things. He finally crossed the equator in July and sailed into Plymouth Harbor in September of 1580.

5 His Adventures When he was 18,he started serving in ship trading the the Bay of Biscay. At age 23,he went on slaving voyages to Guinea in west Africa. Finally at age 24,he was made captain of Judith.

6 Facts about Francis Drake -He was involved in piracy and illicit slave trading before being chosen to be a leader in 1577. -There were no birth records on Francis Drake. -He successfully completed the journey and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth 1.
