4 Visual Art Opportunity Craft: Pirate Paper Doll Everyone will get a cutout of a female figure, and they will color shirt and pants to reflect Grace O’Malley in a creative way (i.e. Shamrock pants, crown, crazy pirate hair) Demonstrates how real events can easily get fictionalized and exaggerated and is a fun creative outlet

5 Creative Writing Group Prompt: Think about Grace O’Malley, her husband, her crew members, and other characters. Write a skit about an imaginary adventure they have on board the pirate ship. Be sure to include information from the text about locations, and please include at least one vocabulary word.

6 Sample Skit by Lauren Marshall (A group of pirates= A,B,C are talking when Grace=G enters) A: Women can't be pirates! B: Of course they can't! Women should only stay indoors and make pancakes for their husbands. C: Women are only concerned about how coiffed their hair is and are too afraid to be pirates. G: Aye! Did I hear you say women can't be pirates? I, Grace O'Malley, happen to be one of the fiercest sea warriors! Haven't you heard of me! I'm quite illustrious amongst pirates. B: Yes, I have heard of you. You can try and emulate male pirates, but you'll never be as good.. G: I disagree. I have visited sundry lands and waters that you'll never know of. You should be lambasted for disrespecting me, Grace O'Malley-Pirate Queen!

8 Wrap It Up Perform your skits for the class! Cast your group members as the actors, and everyone should have at least one line to speak. You can dress up if you wish. We will enjoy pirate snacks as we watch one another’s skits.
