Valparaiso Community Schools Strategic Planning Process July 20, 2010

Rationale School and community input has been gathered from numerous constituents A specific action plan needs to be generated to make school and community input relevant and to act as a guide for future school district enhancement.

Committee Composition 48 members – School Board (2) – Central Office (5) – Building Administration (11) – Teachers (11) – Parents (11) – Community Leaders (5) – At-Large (3)

Sub-Committees Student Achievement and Instruction Finance and Operations Community Relations 16 members in each sub-committee to draft goals, interventions, timelines, benchmarks, etc.

Timeline July 20 – Overview presented to school board August 15 – Determine committee members August 30 – Hold initial committee meeting to orient the committee and to decide on sub- committees September 30 – Hold at least two committee meetings – work sessions October 15 – Hold committee meeting to finalize draft of strategic action plan

Timeline (cont.) October 19 – Strategic action plan draft presented to school board October 20-November 9 – Strategic action plan made available to the public for input/feedback and a public meeting to be held November 16 – Strategic action plan finalized and implemented upon board approval

Closing Comments Developing a strategic action plan is an exciting and challenging process. Implementing the action plan will require teamwork and strong partnerships with students, parents, community members, and our educational staff. Actual results will be measured and made public at least twice per year.

Closing Comments All constituents must be accountable for the implementation of the plan. If we give 100% effort and implement the plan with fidelity, the plan will succeed, student success will be unmatched, and our school system will move from excellence to pre- eminence.
