1 UNIT 2 Feeding and nutrition UNDERNOURISHMENT IN THE WORLD Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education

2 UNIDAD 3 Undernourishment in the world UNIT 2 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education Malnutrition affects millions of people around the world. It can be as a consequence of both insufficient food (undernourishment) and excessive consumption (overnourishment). The greatest contrast in the world Approximately 17% of the population of countries with low per capita incoms suffers from undernourishment. Undernourishment causes rickets, blindness and anaemia due to the lack of iron. Each year, up to half a million children go blind because their diets lack vitamin A, and around three hundred and fifty million have anaemia due to a lack of iron. UNDERNOURISHMENT Approximately 15% of the population of countries with high per capita incomes (32% in the USA) suffers from overnourishment. Overnourishment causes obesity. Approximately two thirds of deaths in the United States are related to over- nourishment. OVERNOURISHMENT
