POWERS OF THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH: covert -- secret or hidden de facto -- existing in fact whether with lawful authority or not line term veto -- the power to veto only certain lines or items in a bill mandate -- a formal order given by a higher authority reprieve -- to postpone or cancel punishment pardon -- the act of excusing a mistake or offense Executive order -- a rule issued by the president that has the force of law amnesty -- A group of pardoned officials for an offense against the government
