5 Sandbox spelling-use colored sand in a small plastic container or box with a lid and students use their finger to spell the words in the sand. (Tactile) Magnetic letter spelling-use a cookie sheet pan and magnetic letters for students to spell their weekly words. The effect is the second part of the idea that usually tells what might happen because the first thing happened. It is called the effect. 12 Group Work Directions: In your small groups, you will have a set of cookies and milks to put together. Rearrange your cookies and milks on the center of your desk area and match the milks with the cookies. Each cookie is a cause and each milk is an effect. 15 Lapbooks Lapbooks can be made with almost anything. Posterboards, file folders, cardboard, cardstock. Scrapbooking papers, and many other materials. The key is to make the labbook inviting to the children’s eye and engaging in the lesson to improve the skill. Stefanie Sorbet, 2015

16 Lapbooks for interventions Start with the student who needs a specific skill. When you pull your small reading groups for guided reading or intervention time, what specific skills are you seeing that your students need?
