Excessive Lifestyle, Wealth, and selfishness in Rome / America Some websites: Foxnews.com Cnn.com Rome: Michael Hoglund Nate Hider

Rome Back in the Roman time, the Romans had a tendency to eat ‘well’ if they were wealthy. Which was a big thing back then since the major population consists of the poor who ate what little they were given.

America Much like in Rome, America also have a crave for fancy foods. Such as fine dining in big restaurants. Which now can be compared to the poor people who live a non-excessive lifestyle using food stamps or eating cheap meals at Burger King and McDonalds.

Rome / America Rome America Wealth is also considered the American Dream, to do well and be able to become rich, etc. Wealthy Americans live in large mansions, as opposed to the poor who live in small apartments or even the homeless who need shelter. Wealth in Rome was good for many things but the biggest excess was the house to be owned by the wealthy roman citizen. Opposed to the poor who considered some ‘barbarians’ living in small huts.

Rome The roman lifestyle was based upon social classes which consists of the wealthy, working class and the plebeians. They wore different types of colors to show the class they were entitled to. They spoke to others by social class lines.

America Though, we do not go to the extent of telling everyone what class we belong to or wear colors to determine wealth, there is still a class system. Excessive wealth, Working, and the poor. Seems as though that people do not talk to each other by class though, more as an ability to do so.

Rome Now, in Rome it was ‘essential’ to own land. The more you had owned… the better to show pride and other ways of having wealth. But overtime not just the wealthy had land, a few reformers made it so the poor people could get a small piece of land for free, but was more of a political ploy to get them involved into politics.

America Of course owning land and above all a nice house on that large land area just to show pride in what you have successfully done that others had yet to do. Unlike Rome, we do not give out land we give them shelter and food, well soup kitchens rather.

Rome / America Rome Roman women, who were entitled to the upper class wore eye shadow and other types of makeup. The Bread and Circus event impacted the common roman lifestyle, to avoid politics and focus elsewhere. America Well, not just the upper class wear makeup seems to be more of a middle class/ wealthy thing now. Sort of like in America, where the entertainment still lives on, to avoid kind of the same point.
