First of all some basic information: Malta is composed of 2 main island Malta and Gozo having a total area of some 316km 2 Population is around 413,000 (making it the most densely populated country in Europe) Hotels are concentrated in 2 main areas Sliema -St. Julian’s and St. Paul’s Bay The megalithic temples are the longest standing temples in the World – 7000 years.

Tourism contributes around 25 to 30% of the nation’s GDP Tourism employs around 15% of the total gainfully employed Tourism multiplier effect has a vast impact on the rest of the economic activity such as the Construction companies, Services companies etc.

Conciously changed strategies ◦ Reduced their expenses considered unnecessary ◦ Had to reduce their Wages bill Started to close for winter months Changed the structure of employees Altered staff ratios Eliminated positions or Amalgamated some roles Paying less for new employees New employee types were explored
