What are the roles of producers, consumers, and decomposers?

2 Any living thing that makes its own food is called a producer.

3 Plants use energy from sunlight to make food
Plants use energy from sunlight to make food. Without the sub, plants would die.

4 Some animals eat plants
Some animals eat plants. The energy stored in the plants is used by the animal’s body.

5 An animal that eats plants or other animals is called a consumer.

6 A consumer cannot make their own food.
Three types of consumers: herbivore carnivore omnivore

7 An herbivore is an animal that eats only plants, or producers.

8 A carnivore is a living thing that eats animals.

9 An omnivore is an animal that eats both plants (producers) and animals (consumers).

10 A decomposer eats dead plants and animals - they also break down waste.

11 Decomposers are very helpful
Decomposers are very helpful. Dead plants and animals would cover the earth without them.
