Any living thing that makes its own food is called a producer.

Plants use energy from sunlight to make food
Plants use energy from sunlight to make food. Without the sub, plants would die.

Some animals eat plants
Some animals eat plants. The energy stored in the plants is used by the animal’s body.

An animal that eats plants or other animals is called a consumer.

A consumer cannot make their own food.

An herbivore is an animal that eats only plants, or producers.

A carnivore is a living thing that eats animals.

An omnivore is an animal that eats both plants (producers) and animals (consumers).

A decomposer eats dead plants and animals - they also break down waste.

Decomposers are very helpful
Decomposers are very helpful. Dead plants and animals would cover the earth without them.
