D. Greenfield CLRC1 End-cap Mechanics FDR Baseline Design Overview Debbie Greenfield, RAL 1 November 2001
2
D. Greenfield CLRC2 Baseline Design - Discs l Quasi-isotropic CF skins - XN 50/RS3, 0/+60/-60 l CF reinforcing rings on inner and outer radii - T300/RS3, 9 layers +45/-45, 1mm thick l Korex honeycomb core l Inserts (actually mostly glue-on pads) - these provide the z location for the cooling blocks and hence the modules. Precision machined down to give accurate height and to take out unevenness in disc surface. l Disc envelope thickness - 9.4mm l Disc nominal thickness - 8.7mm l Held around circumference by 12 disc mounts
3
D. Greenfield CLRC3 Baseline Design - Support Wings l Front wing »simply supports End-cap in Y »400µm thick CF skins, Korex core »part of thermal enclosure - heated and partially cooled - insulation added on l Rear Wing »fixed in Z, supports end-cap and provides resistance to low natural frequency response »900µm thick CF skins, Korex core »part of thermal enclosure - heated and cooled
4
D. Greenfield CLRC4 Baseline Design - Thermal Enclosures l End-cap designed to be thermally neutral. »Inside environment averages -7ºC »Outside environment (TRT) +25 ºC »Heaters on outer surfaces »Cooling circuit on (some) inner surfaces »Insulation in-between »Monitored and controlled by Detector Control System (DCS) l Monophase cooling C 6 F 12
5
D. Greenfield CLRC5 Baseline Design - Cooling Circuits l Two point cooling for outer and middle modules l Single point cooling for inner modules l CuNi cooling pipes, 70µm wall, 3.6mm ID l C-C bossless cooling block with Cu plating l Wiggly pipe layout l Each quadrant has an outer, middle and inner circuit which have their outlets ganged together
6
D. Greenfield CLRC6 Baseline Design - Power tapes l New design kapton tapes with Cu tracks and Al twisted pair HV wires. Laid out side by side on disc. l Not yet laid out - waiting for module decision. Design for FDR shows old wide tape layout. Proposed design will be easier to route and will lead to less variations. l Can be used for either K5 or KB l PPF0 - 4 per quadrant, 120 pin, vertically mounted l PPF1 - 4 per quadrant, 240 pin
7
D. Greenfield CLRC7 Baseline Design - Optical fibre harness l Each harness supplies 6 modules l PPF0 - 2 patch panels per quadrant, push-pull MT housing
8
D. Greenfield CLRC8 Baseline Design - Layout l u,v alternating l outer and inner modules rotated w.r.t. middles by 4.5° l Three rings of modules: inner, middle and outer l Only discs 1,3,4,5, complete with three module rings l First inners on disc 2 l z positions optimised for K4 design. Reoptimisation will be done when everything (including module design) finalised but not expected to move by much
