2 What? The Instructional Partners Pilot is a collaboration between the Alabama State Department of Education, the Alabama Best Practices Center, and the participating school districts and schools.

7 “The Shift” Coach  Instructional Partner A “fix it” solution  IPs, teachers, and leadership working together for a solution. One person  A community working as one Coaching  Partnering Talking  Listening Observing  Involving WE, as teachers, staff, principals, and leaders, collaborate to find an answer to any problem. We are all experts and our answers are WITHIN the building.

8 How? The Keys to Effective Team Functioning: Team members believe strongly in one another’s capacity to develop practical solutions to teaching and learning problems. Faculty and staff believe that regardless of school’s social or economic circumstances, improvement can and will occur. Team members arrive at each meeting with sense that informed trial and error will lead to better teaching and thus to high levels of learning.

10 What is the Role of the Faculty? Sharing responsibility – Data analysis, assessments, lesson planning, research, technology, etc All students learning at high levels Working collaboratively to meet the needs of each student – PLC, team meetings, subject level meetings, conversations with co- workers, data meetings, etc

11 Fist to Five, with “Fist” being very easy and “5” being very difficult. 1.Teachers believe in one another. 2. Teachers believe that all students, regardless of socioeconomic status or ethnicity, can achieve at high levels. 3. Teachers are willing to experiment with new strategies and techniques.
