SERVICE OF DUTY OR LOVE (Text Passage: Matt. 26:37-39) Christians are called upon to perform our spiritual service. Service to a Christian is natural. (Phil. 2:17; Rev. 2:19) Why do we fulfill our demands of service? Is it simply out of a sense of duty, or is it motivated by our love for God? Why did Jesus serve mankind? Text Passage: Matt. 26:37-39 Can duty be motivated by love?

SERVICE OF DUTY OR LOVE (Text Passage: Matt. 26:37-39) A Christians responsibility to attend services. All Christians should feel the desire to attend every service they possible can. (Psa. 122:1; Psa. 100:2). What should motivate our desire to attend services, duty or love? Consider Heb. 10:24-25. Service out of duty without love is worth nothing. (1 Cor. 13:1-3) Kind words or thoughts without service and duty is nothing. (James 2:14-17)

SERVICE OF DUTY OR LOVE (Text Passage: Matt. 26:37-39) A Christians responsibility to partake. Christians have a duty to partake of the Lord’s Supper weekly. (Matt. 26:26-30; Acts 20:7; 1 Cor. 11:26) In meeting our duty what should be the motivation for our service? (1 Cor. 11:18-29) All of our service should be motivated by our love for God. (Mark 12:29-31; 1 Cor. 16:20-23) Our love for the Lord needs to be sincere. (Eph. 6:23-24) We partake because of love, duty, and service.

SERVICE OF DUTY OR LOVE (Text Passage: Matt. 26:37-39) o A Christians responsibility to pray. o There is no doubt that we have a duty to pray. (Acts 2:42; Acts 6:3-4; Eph. 6:17-18; Phil. 4:6) o We should pray all the time…1 Thess. 5:17; “pray without ceasing”. o What motivates a Christian to pray this way? o Is it a sense of duty or love? o Could it be a combination of both qualities? o Christ demonstrated the marriage of the two ideas. (Luke 19:9-10; Heb. 5:5-9; Gal. 2:20)
