3 Mandate System After World War I, Britain and France receive large sections of the Middle East (sections of the Ottoman Empire) Division in the Ottoman Empire, and subsequent imperial rule would lead to countless future conflicts.

4 Britain –Iraq –Transjordan –Palestine France –Syria –Lebanon

5 Rise of Japan Industrialization of Japan leads to a need for raw materials. Rise in Militarism, Hideki Tojo Emperor Hirohito would lead the modern movement. Imperial Ambitions continue for raw materials, (Iron and Coal) Manchuria and Korea under their control.

6 The Beginning of War Germany continues to take land even though the League of Nations issues sanctions against the country. Even though Chamberlain would attempt to make appeasement work, war was inevitable. Germany would invade Poland in 1939, starting World War II.

7 How did it come to this? Germany begins rearmament in 1934. Constant appeasement, giving in to Hitler’s aims. Invading the Rhineland and Sudetenland give Germany territory lost in war.
