Classroom Guidance Third and fourth grade students will receive conflict resolution training K, 1 st, & 2 nd grades will have lessons related to feelings, social skills, and conflict resolution.

A boy and girl from each class are chosen to help new students feel welcome at school. Students attend bi- monthly meetings.

Support Groups From time to time, students experience situations which they don’t understand or which are disturbing to them. In addition, some children need assistance developing various skills. Short-term, small groups help children through these times.

Support Groups THE EXPLOER’S CLUB is an introductory group for children whose parents are separated, divorced, or remarried. Students in all grades may join this group. AVATAR SPACE GROUP is a more advanced group for children whose parents are separated, divorced, or remarried. Students in third or fourth grades may participate.

SUPER GUMBY GROUP will help students who have experienced many changes in their lives. We will focus on feelings, coping skills, and personal safety. It is open to all students. **There is a group for students with parents in jail as well as one for students who are grieving a loved one. Contact the counselor if you want your child in one of these groups. DON’T RANT & RAVE helps children who have difficulty handling anger. This group is open to all students.

HOW STUDENTS CAN JOIN A SUPPORT GROUP Parent Referral-call the counselor at 637-9000 ext. 400 Teacher Referral Student’s self referral

Individual Counseling Students may request to speak with the counselor concerning a problem. Teachers may ask the counselor to speak with a student.

Individual Counseling Parents may refer a child for individual counseling. The sessions will remain confidential.

Paper Bag Activity Each month kindergarten parents receive an activity that can be completed by parents and their children. The activities are both fun and educational.

Counselor’s Notes Parents at all schools receive a bi-monthly newsletter. Classroom guidance, school activities, and pertinent parenting information will be presented in each Counselor’s Notes.
